Word Art

In class we made origami boxes for our homework a while back. We had to take the boxes to school and glue them onto a piece of paper. We got given a random name  and had to write positive things about that person and then put them in their box. When we had enough positive things, we made a word cloud with word art. Here is mine.

Cricket

Paddy from Canterbury Sports came to our school on Tuesday 27th of November to teach us cricket. We played games that improved our batting and catching skills. It was a good way for us to learn new things and keep fit. It was also good for them because they could promote the sport by making more kids interested in it, so they might play it when they are older. He also told us the name of the New Zealand teams. Male team is Black Caps and Female team is White Ferns. Here are some images Mrs Hahn took.

Wringer Scene

In class, we are reading a book called Wringer by Jerry Spinelli. It is about a boy named Palmer who lives in a town where there is an annual pigeon shooting day to raise money for the park. He joins a group of kids named The Guys, and they torment the girl who lives across the street. Her name is Dorothy but they call her Fish face. We had to make videos about one of the scenes in the book, and my group did the scene where The Guys bomb Dorothy with snowballs on their way to school.Next time I would like to have a go at using Green Screen to get a snowy background.

My Pet Day Information Report

At our school every year we have a pet day and have to do a pet day project. This year room 6 weren't allowed to just slap together a poster. We had to put our information reports into WeVideo format. For the information report we had to talk about all animals of that kind, not just our pets. We had to use photos of our pets as visuals. Next time I think I will add more photos. Here is my video:

Refugee Activity Week 8

Hey!  On Thursday we finished the book Refugee by Alan Gratz. So, in the end Isabel, her mum and dad , Senior Castillo, Seniora Castillo, Louis , Amara and Isabel's little brother make it to Miami, but Lito had to go back to Cuba. Mahmoud family are still looking for Hana, and they are staying with a elderly German couple and the old lady is ... Josef's little sister Ruthie! Ruthie tells Mahmoud that sadly her mum and Josef died in a concentration camp. I made a poster about all of the characters. It was an awesome book!

Missing Poster

In the book we are reading in class, called Refugee by Alan Gratz, one of the main characters called Mahmoud is going from Syria to Germany because of the war. On a raft heading to Greece, they fall into the water. In a few hours, another boat comes by. They cannot take the bigger people, but can take little baby Hana. When they get to Greece they try to find her. Here is what I think her missing poster would look like. I have included three languages: English, Greek and Syrian.😟😢😔

Thursday, August 16, 2018

In class we have been reading a book called Refugee by Alan Gratz. This is one for my reading activities. The reason I did my research on a cyclone is because one of the main characters, Isabel remembers on the boat, while they are leaving Cuba due to the food shortage and are in the middle of a storm, hat her grandmother died in a cyclone. This happened while Isabel was staying with her grandma and grandpa. The reason she remembered this is that the characters are in a big storm.

Our teacher instructed us to make a maths array as a sort of carry on of our Dividing With Remainders DLO. Me and Sophie made a maths array full of dividing with remainders questions. The part I like the best is the 94 bananas! Here is Sophie's and my Screencastify.

Reading Plus Progress Term 2

We had to do a screencastify about how much progress we have made in reading plus. Here is my screencastify.

Sid The Cat

My class did a piece of writing about a cat that regularly visits our school, by the name of Sid. We did this because we needed to  learn to write a descriptive piece of writing. Here is a line from my piece of writing and the link.

Line From Writing

Sid is the cat that likes to visit our school. He is called Sid because there is a book in our
class about a cat named Sid, who wanders around and has six homes and has six dinners
which is a lot like the Sid who visits our school.
